From Midtown Manhattan, EWR Airport is 17 miles away and you will need to cross the Lincoln Tunnel/NJ-495 from Midtown Manhattan to New Jersey via Union City/Weehawken. Expect about to take 50 minutes to an hour to drive there.

NYC has a thorough transit system therefore arriving via NYC transit is not a problem. Taking public transit will tack on about 20 minutes to your trip when compared to driving. Here are some of the easiest ways to get to Newark Airport via NYC and NJ Transit:

Penn Station in NYC is going to be your gateway to Newark Airport. If you are not within walking distance of Penn Station, the closest train stop to Penn Station is 34 Street – Penn Station.
If you do not have a car or prefer not to drive, another alternative is taking the Newark Airport Express to Newark Airport. This is a private bus/shuttle service that transports passengers to and from Midtown Manhattan to EWR daily. There are three locations in Midtown Manhattan where you can catch the shuttle:
To get back to Midtown Manhattan, the Newark Airport Express picks up passengers at Terminals A, B, and C.
EWR Airport is about 12 miles from Lower Manhattan you will need to cross the Holland Tunnel/I-78 into New Jersey via Jersey City. Estimate about a 30-35 minute drive from Lower Manhattan to Newark Airport.

Lower Manhattan to Newark Airport via MTA NYC Transit & PATH
From Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn, you will need to take the PATH from the World Trade Center station. If you are in Lower Manhattan, take the E train from Canal Street to World Trade Center to catch the PATH. The PATH will take you from the World Trade Center Station to the Newark Penn Station.
Alternatively, you can catch the R or W train from Canal Street to Cortland Street. It is about a 3 minute walk to the World Trade Center where you can catch a PATH train.
The Newark Airport Express is a great alternative and simple way to get to EWR but there are no pick-up locations in Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn. You have a couple of options to get up to Midtown and catch the Newark Airport Express:
